Pre-1970s — The Landrace Era Cannabis Strains
Before the 1970s, cannabis was entirely landrace — isolated regional populations adapted to their local environments over hundreds of years. These strains were collected by travelers along the Hippie Trail and formed the genetic foundation of everything that followed. The major landrace regions — Central Asia, Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and South Asia — each contributed unique genetics. Afghani landraces brought resin production and fast flowering. Thai sativas brought soaring cerebral effects. Colombian and Mexican varieties contributed the tropical vigor that would later define the Haze family. Without these regionally adapted populations, modern hybrid breeding would have no raw material to work with. 28 entries in this era.
